Silva Ferreira House by Arquiprojecta from Interior design room

The project manifests a clear longing for reclusion from the neighbouring constructions. A house of contemporary design, marked by its pure forms and minimalist, unpretentious style, is set on a gently sloping plot with favourable exposure to the sun. Conscious of the limits of the landscape, the discreet, orthogonal volume featuring large glass panes rejects the evident aesthetic frame of reference of its surroundings. It embraces the patio/suntrap and creates a peaceful scenery where the house is reflected in the glassy surface of the pool. from Silva Ferreira House by Arquiprojecta

CASA de RETIRO ESPIRITUAL - a Book House from Interior design room

CASA de RETIRO ESPIRITUAL was designed by Emilio Ambasz in 1975. It localed at approximately 25 miles (40Km) north of Seville, Spain. The house is surrounded by the splendors of the Spanish countryside , perched on a low peak in the lush, green Sierra Morena mountains overlooking a man-made lake and a vast 1,000 Has estate where olive trees, evergreen oaks, and wild flowers grow and fighting bulls, horses and wild boar roam. Its rural setting provides a dramatic contrast to its stark ascetic look. "The design that first brought Emilio Ambasz to international attention as an architect is one of the most compelling architectural images of our time. from CASA de RETIRO ESPIRITUAL - a Book House

Lily Pond Sushi Set from Interior design room

It is important to remember that the objects presented here, just like the ones in the Chin Family, characters or flowers and fruits, each performing the roles of domestic household objects, are made partly in hand-decorated plastic and partly in fine bone china, also hand-decorated. The magic of Giovannoni’s design lies in the fact that these objects recall the grace of 18th century ceramic trinkets, while at the same time being utterly contemporary from Lily Pond Sushi Set

Terracotta Birdhouse and Wall Mounted Birdhouse from Interior design room

Made from all-natural clay, the Terracotta Bird House (2003) is an attractive, but not ostentatious, home for garden birds. Designers Gavin Christman and Kate Knapp created the Bird House as a response to the disappearing habitats of small North American birds. Its understated spherical design and small entry hole make it impervious to the advances of squirrels and other predators, and it’s sized to offer a safe nesting spot for blue tits, coal tits and marsh tits. The Bird House comes in recyclable packaging and includes a steel wire for hanging and a plastic protector to prevent tree damage. from Terracotta Birdhouse and Wall Mounted Birdhouse

Bring your liquor and chaser together in one unified shot glass. Two separate chambers make up this cool plastic shot glass, designed in the shape of a Chinese yin yang symbol.
Psycho Buildings from Interior design room

As the highlight of The Hayward’s 40th anniversary season, ten artists from around the world have transformed the entire gallery in PSYCHO BUILDINGS.The Hayward’s huge spaces have been filled with artist-designed architectural environments, which spill onto the three outdoor sculpture terraces, radically altering the interior and exterior of the gallery. Inside a village made from over 200 dollhouses and a room frozen in a moment of explosive disaster are amongst the installations that both enchant and disconcert visitors. Outside on the Gallery’s sculpture terraces, installations including a boating lake, a transparent dome and a working cinema have altered the exterior face of The Hayward. Visible from the surrounding area and across the Thames and illuminated by night, they add a significant public dimension to this major exhibition. The ten artists are: Atelier Bow-Wow (Japan), Michael Beutler (Germany), Los Carpinteros (Cuba), Gelitin (Austria), Mike Nelson (UK), Ernesto Neto (Brazil), Tobias Putrih (Slovenia), Tomas Saraceno (Argentina), Do Ho Suh (Korea), Rachel Whiteread (UK).Borrowing its title from a book by the artist Martin Kippenberger, the exhibition brings together the work of artists who create habitat-like structures and architectural spaces that are mental and perceptual spaces as much as physical ones. The exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in a series of eleven atmospheric, enthralling and unsettling installations. Combining architectural and artistic design with the use of light, colour and smell to trigger responses, these dynamic constructions actively encourage viewers to become adventurous participants. The scale and ambition of the exhibition meant the artists spent weeks working in the gallery in order to realise their installations. from Psycho Buildings

ripple design and pad outdoor at ICFF from Interior design room

Ripple Design, in collaboration with PAD Outdoor, is pleased to announce that it will be exhibiting at booth #205 in this year’s Designboom Mart at the ICFF show in New York from May 17th to May 20th. In addition to Architectural projects (such as the Courtyard House which was recently featured in the TeNeues Publication Ecological Houses and in Dwell magazine) Thomas Robertson, Ripple Design’s Principal, has been working closely with Eli Alexander (founder of X-Large Clothing and long time collaborator from their days back at RISD) to create a line of outdoor furniture and accessories under the PAD Outdoor Brand. At ICFF, they will be showing some of their latest designs from their already-mades® series. These household accessories playfully transfigure everyday objects by adding new meanings and uses through industrial ingenuity, as described below by Eli Alexander:In honor of this…honor…we are debuting two new items, an aluminum serving tray/fruit bowl and a porcelain flower vase. The serving tray has a stochastic perforated pattern that not only makes the tray lighter but also allows it to double as fruit bowl. You can load it up with fruit and run it under the tap to wash the fruit while the water drains out the perforations. The aluminum is bright dipped anodized and available in three colors. The Nuclear Planter borrows its form from the iconic cooling towers of the infamous 3 Mile Island nuclear power plant. A truly modern form, the hyperboloid’s beauty is mitigated by its sinister contextual connotations. We celebrate the complexity of life springing forth from that which is better known for destroying life. Our cute little vessel stands about 10 inches tall in unglazed porcelain with a protective high gloss glaze on the inside. from ripple design and pad outdoor at ICFF
